Big Greasy Idea - Muhle Privateers

Concept

This army concept may have been seeded while building the Cogfort Army. I wanted to add some Ogor Maneaters and wanted to use the 40k Ogryn models. Then, some of the pirate flavor from the Drukharidron spilled over, and I used the Muhle Admiral in my Tale of 4 Warlords lore. You can read his first introduction here. Then I was playing some Necromunda and scrounging some terrain and perhaps saw a cool train created with the Sector Mechanicus 40k Terrain and there it was - another Kharadron Overlords inspired army, this time with Ogors. Or maybe it’s an ogor army in the sky. I don’t quite know yet.

The word Muhle is German and translates to Mill. There’s a number of plays on these words because I think I’m so clever. Muhle sounds like Mule, a domesticated horse that’s often used for grueling labor. A Mill grinds down grain into a fine powder. My very first Ogor Army played off the old nursery rhyme about grinding bones into flower to make bread. The Muhle Privateers grind people down to be hardy and compliant. Lastly, as you’ll see below, there are some little bread bakers on board that definitely eat above their weight class and perhaps their breads, pie crusts, and muffin making is what keeps them in good favor. So the Muhle means a lot of things to a lot of different people.

Sneak Preview

I’m going to quick run through a few things that are going to be in this army. Some of them are already mostly built at the writing of this blog post. Others may get scrapped down the line. But here’s a bunch of stuff that goes together…in my head at least.

Admiral Crulg

This ogryn leader model has always enamored me. His cigar, eye glass (cybernetic in 40k). He looks like an enterprising gentleman and I wanted him on my tables somewhere.

The Maneaters

These might end up being used as Gluttons or Ironbealchers. These pants and tight t-shirts also add a different dimension that I really enjoy, making them more militaristic and organized than their mawtribe cousins.

Gyrocopter Armor

And no sky-ogor army is complete without an ogor wearing a duardin gyrocopter to take his appetite to the skies.

Too much?

Maybe Duardin?

This felt like the right place to add Blood Bowl dwarfs as more leather clad pirate crew, running around and through the ogor legs. Taking a page from the Fyreslayers - duardin who care less about who they work for, even ogors.

Maybe Halflings??

One of the differences between the ogors in the Muhle Crew and other ogors of the realms is how svelt they are. Now why is this? is it because they are less hungry than their mawtribe cousins? no. Maybe their more disciplined and hardworking? could be.

Or maybe, when Crulg first set out to build his fleet, he mistakenly chose to spare the life of a halfling cook. Promising to bring amazing food to every voyage, Crulg was ensorcelled by the halflings culinary prowess and got hooked. As the fleet grew, so did the number of halflings…and the only beast that can go toe to toe with an ogor (or a tyranid) in an eating contest…is a halfling.

So the tradeoff is that the Muhle senior leadership eats really good food, but there’s less of it to go around. Why don’t the ogors just eat the halflings and be done with it?

Either its a spell, or the only way to an ogors heart is through it’s stomachs.

The Big Ship

And lastly, a couple shots of the ship in its earliest stages. I managed to get a ton of Sector Mechanicus terrain for really cheap. It was plenty to build this primary ship and more. Can’t wait to show you the gunhaulers. There’s a ton more to show on this baddie and I’ll definitely be adding some more blog posts for each of these units, real soon. Stay tuned!
