The Veins Narrative Supplement

In the second season of the Path to Story podcast, we’ve been talking about a subrealm called ‘The Veins.’ Here, our warlords have done battle over the control of a land unclaimed by outsiders. For too long, this subrealm has existed only in the heads and tabletops of our hosts. Now you too can play along and explore the Veins.

This narrative supplement not only introduces you to the setting our hosts are battling over but introduces new Regiments of Renown, a new campaign arc, and the ability to field a Dogs of War army!

Welcome to the veins

The Veins are a subrealm created by the combined energies of Ghur and Ulgu. The people of this subrealm live on the back of a long dead godbeast known as Ghulgu and were hidden away from the prying eyes of the Grand Alliances. But as the Age of Sigmar progresses, more and more explorers have uncovered this realm and seek to learn its secrets.

The Leaders of the Veins keep the subrealm moving.

The Paymasters and Dogs of War

As Games Workshop continues to release new Regiments of Renown, now is the perfect opportunity to add mercenary forces to your own Path to Glory armies. Included in this pack are rules for creating your own Paymasters. These heroes will allow you to bring in more Regiments of Renown to your existing armies. Using a system similar to the Harbingers from the new Dawnbringers: Harbinger book, these paymasters can gain new abilities as they gain renown.

We’ve also included rules for creating your own Dogs of War army. A callback to a fan favorite Warhammer Fantasy Battles army, a Dogs of War army consists almost entirely of Regiments of Renown. In order to stand apart, we’ve created the Creed System to create your own subfaction rules that bind your army together.

The Creed of the Blade is just one of three tables you can use to create your own Dogs of War faction.

New Campaign Arc

One thing we’ve noticed while playing our games of Path to Glory is that when two players are constantly going up against each other, it can be easy for one army to outmatch the other. We want those in situations like this to still feel like they can tell interesting stories about the games that they’ve played.

To facilitate that, we’ve created a campaign arc that is balanced around the idea that one army is considered the underdogs on the battlefield. Players who take this role in the campaign are not guaranteed a win but will be given tools that can help them close that divide. The rules also focus on the narrative bent that they are there to hinder the enemy forces and not destory them. We hope that this campaign allows players to tell good stories knowing that in a wargame, not everyone will be the victor.
