Setting Off

What’s This All About?

“Oh hi! Didn’t see you there. Hope you brought your bags. We’re just about packed up and ready to go…”

Well… I’ve played this game since it began, and 4 seasons in, realized there’s still warbands I’ve never played with. This blog will document the process of playing through every warband in Warhammer Underworlds, one by one… and maybe we’ll discover that the treasure, the real treasure… were the friends we made along the way, and then subsequently abandoned to a nightmare cycle of death, violence, and rebirth.

What Can You Expect?

I’ll be playing each warband until I’ve played 10 games, or won a game, whichever takes longer (hello Ironjaws!). Any old game counts- whether for a tournament, practice, or just a pick up game. The only ones I won’t count for this project are intro or teaching games. I’ll be collecting some stats for these warbands, but it’s absolutely just for fun and also because if I don’t include some kind of data tracking, Aaron/dosaceos will evict this blog from the site entirely. (Editor’s Note: I’ve been instructed to use the word “ejected” instead of “evicted” to more completely describe the velocity with which I will be removed from this site). But this isn’t an effort to assemble some kind of definitive tier list. There’s no scientific method.

So I’ll be talking about prior experience with the warband, favorite cards and runners up, lessons learned, and the decks I’ve used. I’ve set a personal challenge to paint each warband as they feature on this blog. We’ll see how that goes…

The original plan was to march through the warbands in release order, but… that’s a lot of Season 1 to play right away. And while I love those warbands dearly, it might not make for the best reading. So warband selection will be based on my whims, but heavily influenced by requests, bribes, or overt pressure from the Fyreslayer mafia.

How Often Will this Update?

It’ll take as long as it takes, get off my back, Dad! But it will maybe, kinda, probably, could be once a month? If you need a more regular fix in the meantime, check out our podcast, What the Hex!?!. At the time of writing, there’s like… 36 warbands. This is a marathon, not a sprint, my friends. But I could sprint if I needed to.

Who’s Up First?

That would be telling. Why do you care so much? I can think of an angry certain someone who totally doesn’t care…

Well if I knew heartbreak was coming
I would've set out running
